Case Studies

Capita

IWH was approached by Capita to lead the Future Submarine School element of Project Selborne, a £1.2bn, 12-year, opportunity to modernise and deliver training to the UK Royal Navy across its entire training estate.

This entailed sourcing and leading a team of SMEs to plan and conduct the detailed competitive dialogue phases with the Royal Navy’s procurement team.  Following almost two years working with Capita and their Tier 1 partners Raytheon UK, Fujitsu and Elbit Systems UK, the consortium was awarded Project Selborne.

Since then, IWH has been instrumental in developing the technical and training management solutions that will support the newly built Royal Navy Submarine Training Capability (RNSTC).

Cobham Aviation Services

Over a period of almost two years, IWH worked with Cobham (now Draken), initially to respond the the PQQ and then to conceive and design an approach to the Air Defence Operational Training (ASDOT) tender.  This involved the provision of live aviation assets to provide persistent simulated EW threat environments to both aircraft and warships, live slow flying aviation assets for joint fire support training and live red air ‘aggressor’ fast jets.  In addition, the blend of live and synthetic training and the systems that delivered this were in scope.

The IWH Group provided SME support throughout the bid process, latterly being responsible for the infrastructure elements of two remote sites which were to be generated from previously decommissioned military sites.  This also involved the recommissioning and accreditation of classified IT infrastructure.

Agility Defence and Government Services

IWH was approached by Agility Defence and Government Services to assist in the bid to regain the UN Food Rations Contract in Somalia.  Whilst Agility had been an incumbent to this contract previously, it lost to a competitor and was very keen to regain this complex operation.

The IWH Group managed the bid from kick-off through to submission, substantially changing the approach that they had previously taken and developing a compelling narrative that ultimately secured this high value UN contract for Agility for a further 5- year period.

Global Defence Logistics

IWH was approached by Global Defense Logistics, a large European ships agency company to assist in identifying and winning new business in the UK.

IWH designed a ‘campaign plan’ which involved greater exposure to GDL’s target markets in the UK as well as assisting in the development of the artefacts and registrations necessary to work directly with both UK government and commercial clients.

In addition IWH has provided guidance and assistance in the production of a number of successful tender responses, including ships husbandry, fuel supply and broader military logistics.  Members of our team have advised on operational issues and liaised with key UK government and international clients on GDL’s behalf.

The IWH team also resourced and set-up a UK entity for GDL from which to continue this success.

Artemis Optical

IWH has worked with Artemis Optical to open up direct markets into the UK, US and Europe.  We have embedded IWH personnel into their team on a routine basis in order to understand the technical nature of their offering and provide advice to their business development the wider management team on how their products can be offered across UK, US and European Defence markets.

The IWH team has worked closely with Artemis Optical’s senior management, meeting with foreign embassies in the UK and UK diplomats and Defence personnel overseas in order to raise awareness of the Artemis Optical brand and to help shape the approach they take to satisfy this complex market.
